Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) declared the other day to launch the Survey in Health Condition of Chinese Doctors. According to Lu Jun, the vice chairman of CMDA, and Zhang Yanping, the deputy editor-in-chief of MD Weekly of CMDA, the survey aims at excavation of the root of health problems of medical doctors and providing solutions. The health condition of doctors will become a long-term survey program.

The Survey in Health Condition of Chinese Doctors, which was sponsored by CMDA, organized by MD Weekly, Shijiazhuang Yiling Pharmaceutical and the Psychological Research Institutes in Chinese Academy of Sciences and supported by C&E held a press conference in Beijing on October 27, 2015. The survey of the largest scale ever since had six characteristics, i.e., scientific preciseness (hierarchical and layered), systematicness (architecture and backward verification), expertise (reference to a large quantity of domestic and overseas study, repeated demonstration and participation of professional teams), large scale (above 100 thousand estimated respondents), multi-participation (association, branches, media, consulting company and pharmaceutical companies) and public benefit. As the primary designer of the Survey in Health Condition of Medical Doctors, Doctor Ding Qian from the Psychological Research Institutes in Chinese Academy of Sciences made the following statement. One’s health condition is mainly evaluated in four aspects, i.e., physical health, mental health, social adaptability and moral health. Leaving alone the moral health, the research group found that medical staffs were under heavy load of the former three items in accordance with its qualitative in-depth interview with 220 doctors before.
In accordance with a data set published by Deng Liqiang, the chief of legal affair division of CMDA, 52.72% of doctors worked for 40~60 hours every week on average and 32.69% of doctors worked for more than 60 hours. Participating experts agreed that the working system of “8+2+2” had become a normal state in many places in China. It occurred sometimes that a surgeon worked at the operation table for a few days continually until he was worn out by the operation table. It also became an unwritten but hard rule that a doctor had to hurry back to the hospital in case of emergency of a patient whether it was a holiday or not, day or night. Heavy work not only wore doctors and nurses physically but also had them owe their family emotionally due to less family union. The former director of the Psychological Research Institutes in Chinese Academy of Sciences said that the concern on doctors was not only a care for them but also responsibility for the health of all citizens. Professor Li Xiaoying, Professor Mi Weidong, Zhi Xiuyi and other participating experts expressed their thanks to CMDA and the society for their concern on and care for doctors and called on everyone to cooperate with this survey. As a supporter of the project, Liu Qingying, the general manager of C&E hoped that this survey could contribute to the development of the healthcare industry in China, the health condition of doctors would receive attention from themselves and the society, which would have a deep view of the honorable group.
